The Wave Bristol edges closer to becoming a reality
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 February, 2016 - Work on a manmade surfing lake near Bristol is due to begin soon, after revised plans for it were approved this week. South Gloucestershire Council gave permission for The Wave Bristol to begin digging.
The 40-acre project in Almondsbury is set to begin now that revised plans have been given the green light.
You might remember the plan was approved back in 2014, however changes to the wave technology meant that plans had to be resubmitted. The Wave Bristol website says the project will be powered by SurfLoch wave-making technology.
The Wave made it through a successful round of crowd funding last year, even submitting a pitch for funds to Richard Branson.
The BBC quoted a spokesman for the project as saying The Wave Bristol would create the world’s longest artificial wave.
The £6.2million lake will be built on a 40-acre site which includes plans for an adventure trail, swimming pool, camping area, amphitheatre and education centre.
According to The Wave Bristol's website, the project will create "Perfect waves for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Three surf zones. Head high waves for advanced surfers, waist to chest high secondary waves for intermediate and knee to waist high beginner waves. High performance surf centre for elite athletes and aspiring professionals."
